Markham Releases Camp Program Action Plan for Summer

Markham, ON – January 31, 2012 – Markham releases its comprehensive Action Plan for its 2012 summer camp season. Development of the Action Plan was in response to an activity that took place during one of Markham’s camp sessions in summer 2011. Markham is committed to excellence through continuous improvement in its services and programs for camps. Substantial progress on the implementation of key elements of the plan has been made, with full plan implementation scheduled to be in place before Markham’s 2012 summer camps commence.

The plan includes five key improvement areas: supervision; programming; staff training; hiring practices; and communications practices/protocols. Each of these areas has a number of specific actions.

“The safety of our children and public confidence in our programs are priority number one. We continue to be committed to safe, inclusive, and high quality programs with the goal to exceed the expectations of our residents,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “We recognized the importance of re-examining the focus, content and quality of our summer camp programs to take them to a higher level while building the trust of campers and their families.”
